Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
The Spawted Dog LLC is a home-based salon located in Moorseville, NC 28115. The exact location will be provided upon service confirmation.
What is your focus?
As a burgeoning bath and grooming stylist, I am eager to grow my skills in bath prep, scissor work, and nail trims. My favorite breed is the American Cocker Spaniel and I would love to grow my Doodle scissor skills.
What services do you offer?
The Spawted Dog, LLC is a dog salon offering baths, trims and select breed- specific grooming. We cater to dogs under 75 lbs.
What services don’t you offer?
The Spawted Dog LLC does not pluck ears nor express anal glands. Anal glands are scent sacs found right under your dog’s tail. Some dogs empty them naturally, some do not. Please consult with your veterinarian. Some veterinarians prefer that groomers NOT express the glands or pluck ears, therefore we do not do these services at the Spawted Dog, LLC..

Can I stay with my dog during the groom?
Unfortunately no. Dogs are calmer and better behaved for grooming when the owner is not present. When the owner is present, the dog is so focused on the owner that it disrupts the grooming process. The dog will bark, try to lunge off the table, become very excited with the idea of you coming over to pet him. This will make the task much harder for the groomer. Working with sharp tools makes it necessary to have 100% of the dog’s attention on the groomer. We are using scissors and other sharp tools around your dog’s eyes and other tender parts of the body. This can cause serious unnecessary accidents to occur.
How often should my dog be groomed?
The frequency of grooming depends on the breed, length and type of your pet’s coat, activity level and the personal preferences of the pet parent. For example, maintaining a longer desired length will require a more frequent schedule. In general, a bath or groom may be needed every 4-6-8 weeks while a bath may be advantageous in between grooms to help combat odors and shedding around the home. For non-shedding breeds and mixed breeds whose hair is kept in a particular style like Doodles, Poodles, Terriers, and Bichons, we recommend grooming every 4-6 weeks to keep their fur neat and tidy. Bath pups like Collies, Labs, and Shepherds can be groomed every 6-8 weeks. We do not recommend going longer that 3 months as this may result in matts, tangles and a longer, more stressful groom for the pet.
How often should nails be trimmed.
Generally, Nails should be trimmed every 4-6 weeks.
Does my dog need any vaccinations before coming to the salon?
The Spawted Dog LLC asks all clients to supply proof of their dog’s current rabies vaccination. As long as the puppy is under 4 months old at the time of their visit to the salon, they do not require a rabies vaccination.
When should my puppy be groomed?
The Spawted Dog, LLC recommends that puppies come in soon after their first set of puppy shots, usually 12-16 weeks of age. We focus on the introduction to the noise, smell, sights, sounds and equipment of a new environment in a calm and stess-free way. This will set them up for success for all future visits as they learn that the salon is pleasant place to come to.
My dog is matted? What can you do?
Matts can be painful as they tug on the skin. If your dog is not accustomed to regular brushing/combing at home then it can also be a stressful experience to have have matts brushed out. The Spawted Dog, LLC always attempts to release mats with a combination of dematting treatments and tools. 15 minutes of brushing/dematting time is included in our service packages, if more time is needed, we will discuss your options with you.
Please Note: If mats are too severe to be humanely combed out, we may suggest a shave down or veterinarian care.
Will you groom my senior/ special needs dog?

My dog bites at other grooming salons or is aggressive. Will you still groom my dog?

If a dog becomes highly stressed and the situation becomes a safety concern, for both dog and groomer, we will discontinue the groom. We will always go over recommendations for grooming your dog and try to find solutions best catered to your dogs individual needs.
What is my dog has fleas?
We will notify you immediately and will bathe your dog in our flea shampoo at an extra charge of $20.00 to minimie the spread to other dogs. We will also have to keep him separated for the time being until he is picked up.
Will my dog be put in a crate?
